Out-of-school learning in the border regions The project “Living and learning in the border regions” aims to encourage teachers and people working in education at out-of-school locations to develop tasks that promote independent thinking in pupils, while helping them to look beyond borders and see their own border region as a single entity. Altogether, four border regions are represented in the project: Germany-Netherlands, Austria-Hungary, Poland-Czech Republic and Sweden-Norway. From 26th February - 2nd March 2008 an international teachers’ course will take place in Kerkrade (Netherlands), at which the teachers will be introduced to new learning methods. The project outcomes will be published in autumn 2008. http://www.borderactivities.eu/
Projects of the Lower Austrian Language Initiative Czech and Slovak at nursery With the project “Czech and Slovak at nursery”, the state of Lower Austria is embracing a highly topical issue – at no other time in a person’s life does he learn foreign languages as easily as between the ages of two and six. Moreover, it is especially important that children learn a regionally significant language, in other words a language spoken in the immediately adjacent neighbour countries. In Lower Austria children now have the opportunity to have fun learning Czech and Slovak at 80 nurseries in the border regions.Native speakers are teaching more than 3,500 children their first steps in these languages.
