Neighbour languages in the Saar-Lor-Lux “macro region” Language networks in the border regions The aim of this project was to encourage educationally disadvantaged young people in the Saarland–Lorraine to learn the neighbour language spoken on the other side of the border. To make this possible, new language networks need to be formed, in order to create appropriate and innovative learning situations. Essentially, these innovative learning situations should be media-based and involve real encounters. This was considered vital in order to enable individual learners to consolidate their knowledge, develop skills and engage in lifelong learning processes. http://www.blk-lll.de/LLL/LIT/Schlussberichte/Saarland.pdf

The SCHUMAN Programme The SCHUMAN Programme gives school pupils an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the neighbour language and enables them to gain an excellent insight into the culture and everyday life of one of the partner regions. In addition, the two-week individual visit to the partner region promotes a sense of independence, self-confidence and communicates key skills for intercultural learning. http://europa.bildung-rp.de/informationen-fuer-schuelerinnen-und-schueler.html Interregional Youth Choir The 40 singers are selected by the relevant partner institution in each region or country. All of them have already completed vocal training and gained experience in choirs or music schools. They are able to read sheet music without assistance. They agree to sing in the choir for 2 -3 years. This allows the choir community to replenish its membership each year and new members are able to develop and become part of an on-going project. The young people are prepared in their own regions for the joint rehearsals, which – depending on the number of concerts – take place at least 4 -5 times per year and last from Friday evening till Sunday afternoon. In the summer a course lasting several days is organised. The regional choir leaders and specially commissioned guest choir leaders are responsible for the artistic management of the choir.
